Getting the best results

Front-load the hook

Feeds show only the start of a caption. Put the most important line first, before the “more” cut-off.

Short paragraphs

One idea per paragraph with a blank line between them is far easier to read on a phone than one long block.

Hashtags at the end

Keep hashtags after your message (or in a first comment) so the caption reads naturally. Use the Hashtag Organizer to clean them up.

Caption Formatter questions

How do I add line breaks to my Instagram bio?

Type your bio here with each line on its own row, copy it and paste it into Instagram. Line breaks work in bios the same way as in captions. Instagram bios are limited to 150 characters, so check the character count before you paste.

Why does Instagram sometimes remove my line breaks?

Apps can trim empty lines and trailing spaces, and behavior has changed over time. Removing stray spaces at the end of lines helps. If blank lines still disappear, enable the invisible-character option, which places a blank Braille character (U+2800) on empty lines. Results can still differ between apps and versions.

How are characters counted?

The counter counts visible characters, so an emoji (even one made of several code points, like a skin-tone emoji) counts as one. Platforms may count slightly differently.

What is Instagram's caption limit?

Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters. The counter turns red when your formatted caption goes over.

Does this work for TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn?

Yes. The formatted text is plain text with normal line breaks, so you can paste it anywhere. Each platform has its own length limit and display rules.
