Choosing the right tool
- My caption looks like one long block of text
- Paste it into the Caption Formatter to normalize paragraph spacing and remove stray spaces that can break line breaks.
- I'm not sure if my caption is too long
- The Caption Formatter counts characters, words, hashtags and mentions live and warns you when you pass Instagram's 2,200-character limit.
- My hashtag list has duplicates and mixed capitalization
- The Hashtag Organizer extracts hashtags from any text, merges duplicates like #Travel and #travel, and sorts them.
- I use different hashtag sets for different posts
- Create groups in the Hashtag Organizer, such as “Core” and “Location”, and copy each group separately.
quick reference
Caption and hashtag basics
- Instagram caption length
- Up to 2,200 characters, including spaces, emoji and hashtags.
- Visible before “more”
- Roughly the first 125 characters in the feed (varies by app and screen), so lead with your hook.
- Blank lines disappearing
- Remove trailing spaces at line ends; if spacing still collapses, put an invisible character (U+2800) on empty lines.
- Hashtag characters
- Letters, numbers and underscores. Spaces and punctuation end a hashtag, and numbers-only tags don’t link.
- Capitalization
- #Travel and #travel are the same tag; CamelCase (#NatureLovers) just reads better.
Platforms change their limits and display rules; check each app’s help center for current guidance.
