Convert VTT to SRT or SRT to VTT online, free. Turn WebVTT (.vtt) captions into SubRip (.srt) for editors and upload forms, or SRT into WebVTT for web players. Timestamps are converted exactly, multi-line cues are kept, and every cue is previewed before you download.

WebVTT adds a WEBVTT header and uses a period in timestamps (00:00:01.000) where SRT uses a comma (00:00:01,000). SRT numbers each cue; in WebVTT, identifiers are optional.
Italic, bold and underline tags are kept in both directions. WebVTT-only features such as voice tags, classes and cue positioning are removed when converting to SRT.
Need to shift or edit cues after converting? Open the file in the Subtitle Editor.
Upload the SRT or VTT file and choose Transcript (.txt). You get the spoken text only, with one line per cue and no numbers, timestamps or formatting tags, ready to paste into a blog post or show notes.
Both store timed subtitle text. VTT (WebVTT) files start with a WEBVTT header, use a period in timestamps (00:00:01.000) and support positioning and styling; SRT files number each cue and use a comma (00:00:01,000). Read SRT vs VTT: differences and how to convert.
The HTML5 <video> element and many web players only accept WebVTT for captions. Video platforms like YouTube accept both.
Blocks that can't be read are skipped and listed with their line numbers so you can fix them. If no valid cues are found, the tool explains what it expected instead of producing an empty file.
UTF-8 (with or without a byte order mark) and UTF-16. Older files that aren't valid UTF-8 are read as Windows-1252. Output is always UTF-8.
Basic italic, bold and underline formatting is preserved. STYLE and NOTE blocks in WebVTT files are not carried over to SRT, which doesn't support them.
